Six Senses Hotels Resorts Spas has confirmed it will open its first London property in June 2026, with the hotel housed within a carefully restored Victorian bathhouse on Whitechapel Road. The 109-room property will represent the brand's UK debut and one of the more anticipated luxury hotel openings in the capital in several years.

The building — a Grade II listed former public bathhouse dating from 1847 — has undergone a £45 million restoration that has preserved the original Victorian architecture, including the main bathing hall, vaulted brick ceilings and ornate ironwork, while inserting contemporary interiors designed to reflect Six Senses' signature approach to wellness, craft and environmental responsibility.

The property

Six Senses London will offer 109 rooms and suites across the restored bathhouse and a sympathetic new-build extension. The centrepiece is the original main pool, which has been converted into the hotel's signature spa — a 2,400 sq ft facility featuring thermal experiences, treatment rooms and a hydrotherapy circuit that draws on the building's bathing heritage.

The food and beverage programme will be anchored by a full-service restaurant operating under the brand's farm-to-table philosophy, with a focus on seasonal British produce and a menu designed in collaboration with a yet-to-be-named British chef. A rooftop bar with views across East London will open alongside the main restaurant.

The hotel will also house Six Senses' first urban Alchemy Bar — a space dedicated to herbal remedies, tinctures and personalised wellness consultations — alongside a sleep programme and an in-room biohacking technology suite available in the upper-tier rooms.

Whitechapel as a destination

The choice of Whitechapel reflects a broader shift in luxury hospitality's relationship with London geography. Where the highest-end brands have historically clustered in Mayfair, Belgravia and Knightsbridge, the past decade has seen a progressive eastward movement — The Hoxton, Mondrian and now Six Senses bringing genuine luxury credentials to areas of the city that were not previously associated with the sector.

Six Senses' positioning in Whitechapel also places it close to the City, Shoreditch and Canary Wharf, making it naturally positioned for both corporate travel and the culturally driven leisure guest who drives much of East London's hospitality economy.

Rates and bookings

Opening rates are expected to start from £450 per night for a standard room, with suites from £950. Pre-opening reservations are available through the Six Senses website for arrivals from 3 June 2026.

The confirmation of the opening date follows several months of speculation after construction delays pushed the property's planned 2025 launch into this year. Six Senses has indicated the additional time was used to refine the food and beverage programme and the spa offering, both of which are central to the brand's positioning.
