Tom Kerridge has opened The Coach Bar & Grill at Harrods, a 90-cover brasserie and bar on the fifth floor of the Knightsbridge department store, following a £2 million fit-out that the chef describes as the "natural London extension" of his two-Michelin-starred Marlow pub The Hand & Flowers.

The new space, which opened to the public on Wednesday, seats 90 across a main dining room and bar, with a private dining suite accommodating a further 20 guests. The design references The Coach — Kerridge's more casual Marlow pub — with a palette of aged oak, burnished leather, and rough-plastered walls that contrast deliberately with the grandeur of the department store setting.

The menu centres on British produce cooked with classical technique: potted Cornish crab with sourdough soldiers, ox cheek and marrowbone pie with mashed potato, and a short-rib burger that nods to the original Coach's celebrated version. The wine list, curated by sommelier Beth Poulain, features a tight selection of around 60 bins, with a focus on British sparkling and old-world European reds.

A considered London move

Kerridge has long resisted pressure to open a permanent London restaurant, telling interviewers over the years that the capital's operating costs, staffing dynamics, and competitive intensity made it difficult to deliver the experience he wanted at a price that made sense. The Harrods model — a built-out space within an established venue, with the department store carrying the property risk — evidently offered a structure that worked.

"I've been asked about London for 20 years," Kerridge said at the opening. "The answer was always the same: not until it was right. This is right. The team here are brilliant, the space is extraordinary, and the food is exactly what I want to be cooking."

The kitchen is led by head chef Sophie Winslow, who worked under Kerridge at The Hand & Flowers for four years before leading the stoves at a private members' club in the City. Kerridge will divide his time between Marlow and Knightsbridge, with a commitment to being present at The Coach Bar & Grill at least two days per week.

Harrods' ongoing hospitality strategy

The opening forms part of Harrods' ongoing investment in its food and hospitality offering, which now spans more than 25 restaurants, cafés and bars across the building. The department store's F&B revenue has grown significantly over the past five years as luxury retail footfall has shifted toward experience-led spending, with dining becoming a destination in itself rather than a secondary activity.

The Coach Bar & Grill is open Monday to Sunday, noon to 10pm, with brunch service launching on Saturday mornings from mid-April.
